Dear Parents/Carers, Thank you to the four parents who came along to the ‘grammar workshop’ last Wednesday, which was led by our Literacy Lead Vicky Darious. Since 2016, grammar, spelling and punctuation have become a huge part of the English curriculum with a separate assessment test introduced by the government at the end of Year 2 and Year 6.  If any parents were unable to make the workshop and would like to know more about the grammar expectations please see Vicky Darious, as she would only be too happy to help with this.

We hope that the parents who attended the workshop found it informative and interesting.

We are pleased to announce that Stevie Moore in Oak class is expecting her second baby and will be leaving us at the beginning of June. We will be interviewing shortly for a replacement teacher to cover her post and parents will be pleased to hear that Chrissie Boston will continue to job share Oak class until Sophie Rimmer returns.

Congratulations to Sophie and Carl Rimmer

Whilst we are on the subject of babies, congratulations to Sophie and Carl Rimmer on the birth of their second daughter Demelza (Demi) a baby sister for Renee. Demi was born on 30th January, mum and baby are doing well.

Wet play times

We are planning to build up some play boxes of equipment for wet playtimes and wondered  if any parents would be able to contribute towards this with: unwanted children’s’ magazines, colouring or quiz  books and any board games. We thank you in advance for your support with this.

‘Food, glorious food community project’

Cherry and Maple classes are participating in a very exciting project this term which will involve working with different community groups across Exeter. Jo Kingscott and Rachel Floyd are looking for parents or grandparents to help support this project who are keen gardeners or cooks. Maybe they enjoy cooking food from a different culture and would be happy to share their recipes with the children. Volunteers would not necessarily work with their own child’s class so they would need to be flexible.

Please speak to Jo Kingscott in Cherry class if you would be happy to help with this new project.

Newtown Community Preschool are holding a Babies' and Children's nearly new sale on Sat. March 11th from 1.30 - 3.30 p.m., in our new premises at 37 Blackboy Rd.
If you have any good quality unwanted baby or children's clothes, equipment or toys which you'd like to sell, you can hire a table for £5 and keep any money you make. If you don't want to sell it yourself but
would like to donate it to our Preschool stall, that would also be great. If you don't want to sell anything but have a baby or young child, come along and look for a bargain!
Please let any of your friends, family, neighbours and work colleagues with young children, or anyone expecting a baby know about it!
If you have any questions, or to book a table, contact Claire at:

New research study by the University of Exeter: Do you struggle to get your kids to eat their fruit and veg instead of sweets? If you want something to do over half term (it takes a few minutes a day) please participate in an online study of brain training for healthy eating in 4-12 year olds! Visit for more information and to sign up your children if interested.

Many thanks for your continuing support.
