Dear Parents/Carers, Tickets are still available for the KS2 End of year show ‘Shakespeare Rocks’.

The Dress Rehearsal for the show will be held on Monday, 10th July at 9.30am, so any KS2 parents who have babies or toddlers or are unable to make the other two dates, are invited along to this performance. As always, please can we remind parents that photos or videos which are taken can only be used for private useand not downloaded onto any social media sites.

Costumes - Please can we ask parents of the pupils in the chorus of the 'Shakespeare Rocks' production (those who do not have a speaking part) if you could kindly provide your child with black clothes for the show. Any black clothing will do: shorts, jogging bottoms, leggings, t-shirts, blouses, shirts etc. as long as they are black. They will need their costume in school by Monday morning for the dress rehearsal in a named carrier bag please.

We will need all of the KS2 children back at school for the evening performance on Wednesday, 12th July please, as they are all in the show. The performance begins at 6.30pm but the children need to arrive by 6pm in their black clothes please.

The show will last about 45 minutes so if parents are not planning to come and watch their child they will need to be here to pick them up at the end of the show at approximately 7.15pm.

Photography and filming at school events

The Data Protection Act does not prevent parents or other family members from photographing their children on sports day, in school performances or in other school events.

Schools are entitled to decide whether or not they allow photography to take place on their premises, however, it should not be banned for fear of breaching The Data Protection Act (the DPA). The DPA does not apply to parents or other family members taking pictures of their children for their own personal use, for example to go in a family photo album.

If a school decides that photography is allowed, it should inform parents or carers of this before the event. When taking photographs, parents do not need to obtain the permission of the other parents in case their child appears in the picture.

Professional photographers

If professional photographers attend a school event, this should be made clear to those attending, preferably beforehand. Professional photographers should, out of courtesy,

Approach people nearby who are in the picture and explain that a photograph or filming is about to take place in case they want to move away.

Inappropriate behaviour

If someone is suspected of taking inappropriate or unauthorised pictures then the school should ask them to stop and leave the site. The incident should be recorded and, if appropriate, reported to the Police.

Y6 Exe Valley Challenge

EVCThe Newtown Exe Valley Year 6 team did incredibly well last Sunday and although the weather was hot they all managed to finish the route together.

The Exe Valley Challenge is an exciting event for children aged between 8-12. The distance covered is about 10 miles across a route that covers some of Exeter’s most interesting and beautiful countryside. The challenge is aimed at encouraging young people to be active and aware of the green areas across the city. Well done to the resilient team:   Sofia, Tyler, Freya and Michaelwho we are very proud of.

Lost Property

We have so much unnamed Lost Property at the moment we don’t know where to put it all!  It will be out on tables again tonight after school, so please can parents look through it, as it has to belong to someone in the school. Any unclaimed Lost Property which is not labelled will be laid out on a table at the Summer Fair and we will ask for a donation.  There are some very good clothes and shoes, so please have a good look tonight

School Dinners from September 2017

From September we will be leaving Fresha, our hot meal provider, and move back to Devon Norse.

This means that there will be a different menu and meals can now be ordered daily.  Your child would have brought home today a new menu for September and October.

Your child will be asked if they wish to order Option 1 or Option 2 during morning registration.

It will be the responsibility of the pupil / parent to order the option which best suits their dietary needs. For medical dietary needs please speak to the school office.

Please note that jacket potatoes, mentioned on the menu, will not be available to order.

For reception class children, Miss Rowse will be setting up a system were parents will be able to assist their child with their choices when they drop off in the morning. This will be explained to parents during their child’s first week at school by the class teacher.

Paying Dinner money:

We ask that parents put all dinner money in an envelope marked with their child’s name and class.  Meals cost £2.40 each, and this should go to your child’s class teacher via their book bag on Monday morning (or the first day of the week).  Cheques should be made payable to Devon County Council.

Please let the office know if your child will be late as we need to order dinners by 9.30am each day.

If your child is absent, money can be carried forward to the following week.  If you are in receipt of Income Support or Income based jobseekers allowance or Child Tax Credits without working tax credits, you can apply for free school meals – please collect a form from the office. The office staff are only too happy to help parents fill in the form, if they have any difficulty with doing this.

Newtown Community Preschool After School Club
As you may be aware, Newtown Community Preschool have been running an After School Club (ASC) this half term as a pilot project.  A decision on whether the ACS will continue to run in September is due to be made
shortly and key to this is understanding the demand for places.  If your child/ren do not currently attend the ACS and you would be interested in joining please let Claire Ritchie (Preschool Administrator) know by
emailing office@newtowncommunitypreschool.co.uk
It would be helpful when emailing that you detail the age of your child/ren and what sessions you are interested in.  We currently collect the children from school and run the ACS every week day until 6pm.  Fees
(including snack) are £5 per child until 5pm or £9 per child until 6pm.

Many thanks for your continuing support,

Ruth Jones
