Dear Parents/Carers, Many thanks to all of the parents who came along to the KS2 Sports afternoon on Wednesday. We were yet again extremely lucky with the weather, as although there were dark clouds looming we managed to get to the end of the afternoon without rain. Well done to all of our children who participated in the fun events and a special thank you to the four parents who took part in the egg and spoon race at the end. Impressive skills!

We met with our new Reception parents this morning and the induction afternoons have now been organised over the coming weeks. We hope that our new children will enjoy their time here at Newtown and grow to love learning, as we all do.

We have some exciting events happening next week with; the Devon Wildlife Trust visiting Maple class,

1st induction afternoon for our new Reception pupils, Exe Valley Challenge practice walk for Year 6 pupils and  a Ugandan farmer visiting Cherry class.

Cherry Class organisation

Jo Kingscott will be leaving us on the 21st June for her maternity leave and we are now in a position to announce that we have two experienced teachers who will be job sharing Cherry class until the end of the summer term. They are; Mr Andrew Dickason (Mon, Tues) and Ms Poppy Whewell (Wed, Thurs, Fri).

Jo Kingscott will be overlapping their start date by a couple of days so that we will have a smooth transition in place. We wish Jo Kingscott all the best on her maternity leave and look forward to meeting the new baby Kingscott.

Respect Festival

Well done to Kerry Bailey and her after school dance club for representing the school in the recent ‘Respect Festival’ which was held in Belmont Park. The children all danced beautifully and everyone was very impressed. Thank you to our Newtown parents who went along to support them.

Star team trophy

Congratulations to the Sandford team with 169 points, who are the winners of the ‘Star team trophy’ this week.

Other team scores were as follows:

2nd Clifton team with 126 points

Joint 3rd Portland and Belmont teams with 111 points

Library Books

Please can all parents have a really good search around their houses to see if any Newtown library books are tucked away. We have noticed that our stock of library books are gradually depleting and although most children are good at bringing them back before choosing another, there are always some who don’t. We will be delighted to receive any library books back and  no families will be black listed for having any!!!

School Office

Parents please note that the school office will be closing at 4.00pm from next week. We therefore ask that any parents picking up pupils from any after school club kindly wait outside, the children will be brought out to meet you by the club leader. Many thanks.
