It has been a very busy term with so much packed in; bikeability, may day event, class day trips, music afternoon, parents meetings, sports day, end of year shows, summer fair, careers morning plus an open afternoon this week. Thank you to all of our staff for working so hard this year and it is with sadness that due to various reasons we have some staff leaving.
Well, what a fantastic week for Newtown pupils. The end of year show ‘Go for Gold’ was a great success and we were extremely proud of all of our children.
Star team trophy The winning team of the ‘Star team trophy’ this week is the Portland team with 123 points. Well done for working so hard! Strike Action & Parents Evenings National Union of Teachers members in England have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action to protect pay and working conditions. The strike action will take place on Tuesday 5 July.
Jo Turner in Ash class leaves for her maternity leave today. We wish her all the best and look forward to meeting baby soon.
Dear Parents/Carers, Maths Challenge Congratulations to our Maths Challenge team who took part in the recent competition. They represented the school brilliantly and came 5th overall.

Other team scores were as follows: 2nd Sandford with 170 3rd Clifton with 162 4th Belmont with 140 Our team point monitors totaled up the team points for the Summer ½ term yesterday and the overall winners were as follows: 1st Portland with 1186 2nd Belmont with 1077 3rd Sandford with 1046 4th Clifton with 999 Congratulations to the Portland team, who as a special treat, were not wearing school uniform today and they also enjoyed extra morning playtime.
Many thanks to all of our parents and grandparents who attended our May Day celebrations this afternoon and to Chris Snell who came along to crown our May Day queen. The children all danced beautifully today and for our youngest children this was the very first time that they have participated in our Newtown May Day event.
Congratulations to our Newtown Maths team who took part in the Primary Schools Maths Challenge which was held at St James Community School last Tuesday. They were against nine other local primary schools in their heat and came second, which means they will now participate in the finals.
